Most children will at a certain point want a pet. It will be down to what sort of pet, and since usually dogs are the pets of choice for most families, it will be down to what sort of dog to choose.
Of course your children will have a preference of their own, but if you can influence things – and you should be able to, at least partially – we’ve found that the bulldog is a good choice.
It may not sound at first, cos bulldogs are usually associated with meanness. But even if it is among the most popular dog breeds in the world, a lot of people have preconceived ideas about bulldogs. Many think they’re mean dogs, just because they look intimidating. the truth is, they are really gentle dogs, and perfect for kids. Children have a tendency to overwhelm pets with their attention, and guess what, bulldogs love a lot of attention, they thrive on it!
Bulldogs are also very good guardians for the children, and at the same time very playful. When young, they are full of energy, which is another match, as your children will have lots of energy too; it will be very good for the child and the dog to run together in the yard (hopefully you have a yard). So you might as well look at your bulldog as a nanny, somebody who keeps your children busy while you can do some other things.
If shown proper leadership, these dogs are really nice and easy to handle. Just keep them away from water and from heat, and keep in mind they can also be quite stubborn – a lot like your kids!
The best combination is to get your kids a bulldog puppy, this way they grow up together and this will create a strong bond. Many other people chose to do so, here are a lot of examples.
To give another famous TV example, the dog in the popular series Modern Family is a bulldog, her name is Stella, she is a French bulldog; there is also an English bulldog. She recently featured in a Target’s #MyKindOfHoliday campaign along with Sue Heck (Eden Sher) from The Middle and the Angles from Back in the Game.
And to end this in an ‘awww’ moment, here’s a video of a child playing with a bulldog – they’re so cute!
